Groundwork sessions involve working with horses from the ground — no riding required. Through intentional activities on the ground with the horses, you have an opportunity to notice how you communicate, connect, and respond to another living being. What you discover here often mirrors what's happening in other areas of your life, creating meaningful openings for reflection and growth.
Mounted work incorporates the experience of riding as part of the therapeutic process. The physical connection of being on horseback — the movement, the rhythm, the partnership — can offer access to parts of yourself that sitting still in a room may not reach. Sessions are led by a licensed therapist and tailored to your level of comfort and experience.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a somatic therapy that helps you process through difficult or traumatic experiences that still feel upsetting, even when you know the event is in the past. Rather than talking about what happened, your therapist guides you through the memory while using bilateral stimulation — such as eye movements or the rhythmic movement of a horse — to help your brain process what feels stuck. You can expect to talk with your therapist about what you would like to work on, identify what still feels difficult about the experience, and then move through the memory in a structured way. You don't have to tell every detail of what happened or relive the experience exactly as it occurred. The goal is to help the experience feel less overwhelming — and more like something that has happened to you, rather than something that is still happening to you.
At the heart of Gestalt therapy is a simple belief: you are already whole and possess your own answers within you. It creates space for you to become more aware of what is happening within you so you can understand yourself more deeply and discover what you may already know. Equine Gestalt brings this philosophy into relationship with the horse. You have the opportunity to notice and experience what is happening in your mind, emotions, body, and relationships in the present moment. The horse becomes an active partner in that experience, giving you something real to notice, respond to, and become curious about.
