THE INSPIRATION BEHIND MUSTANG MAGIC

How a Wild Horse Named Magic Changed Everything

The inspiration behind the name Mustang Magic comes from my experience with an untouched mustang named Magic. During a four-day equine therapy training, she taught me something I had never fully understood before — the profound power of connection. She showed me what it meant to truly see and be seen, feel and be felt, without words, expectations, or even physical contact.

We began on opposite sides of the round pen, and over time, I quietly entered her space, asking nothing of her. I simply sat with her — present, patient, and willing to wait. On our last day together, Magic quietly stepped behind me, lowered her head, gently touched the top of my head with her nose, and breathed softly into me. It was such a simple gesture, yet it felt so profound. In that single breath, I experienced something I will never forget — the feeling of being completely seen and felt by another living being. It was connection in its purest form. No expectation. No agenda. Just two souls meeting in a moment of quiet understanding.

Something shifted in me that day. I returned to the sanctuary to see her one more time and say goodbye. Slowly, she began to move toward me — one step, then another — until she stood just a few feet away. And in that quiet space between us, I felt the love I had for her, the ache of letting her go, and the understanding that sometimes loving someone means allowing them to remain exactly where they belong.

Looking back, I realize Magic had led us to Kiva and Apache. And Kiva, in particular, would become one of the most profound gifts Magic ever gave me — the love, companionship, and presence of one of the deepest souls I have ever known. I named Mustang Magic in her honor and because of what she taught me.

OUR VISION
we do this work differently
A Different Kind of Healing Space
Mustang Magic Equine Therapy Services was founded with a deep belief that healing doesn't have to happen behind a closed door. For many people, talking alone isn't enough — or it doesn't feel safe enough to begin. What is needed is something different: a place where the body can exhale, where nature holds the space, and where connection with another living being opens the door to what words cannot.

The horses here are not props or tools. They are partners in the therapeutic process — living, breathing beings who respond honestly to what you bring into the space. They don't judge you. They don't require you to perform or explain yourself. They simply meet you where you are. And sometimes, that is the most healing thing of all.

This place exists because I know what it feels like to need a different kind of help — one that reaches beyond conversation. Mustang Magic is built for those who are ready to feel something different. To try something that honors not just what you think, but what you carry in your body, your relationships, and your story.

If you've been searching for a different way — one that reaches beyond the typical therapy room — you may have found it.

Every person who comes to Mustang Magic deserves to feel safe enough to be exactly who they are. We believe that healing is not a linear path — it is a living, breathing process that looks different for everyone. Our work is guided by a few core beliefs:

Connection heals

Whether it's the quiet presence of a horse, the gentle rhythm of nature, or the trust built between a therapist and client — connection is the foundation of meaningful change.

You are the expert on your own experience

We don't come with a script for who you should be or how quickly you should heal. We follow your lead and trust your wisdom.

Choice and voice matter

Especially for those who have experienced trauma, having a space where you get to choose — how close to stand, when to step forward, when to pause — is not just kind. It is therapeutic.

Healing happens in the body, not just the mind

We work with the whole person — what you feel, not just what you say — in settings that invite the nervous system to soften.

Taking the first step can feel big — here's what happens next
What to Expect When You Reach Out
When you reach out to Mustang Magic, we'll start with a brief conversation to understand what you're looking for and answer any questions you have. There's no pressure, no rush, and no expectation that you need to know exactly what you need before we talk.

From there, we'll schedule an intake session — an opportunity to get to know one another, talk about what's brought you here, and begin to understand what your goals are. We'll also walk you through what the equine therapy setting looks like and what you can expect when you first meet the horses.

Our sessions can take place outdoors in the equine environment, and we can also meet inside when that feels right. We tailor the work to you — your pace, your comfort, and what feels most meaningful at each stage of your journey.
Where Healing Happens
A Soft Place to Land in Bend, Oregon
Mustang Magic is nestled in the high desert of Central Oregon — a landscape that is itself a kind of medicine. The open sky, the smell of sage and earth, the sound of hooves on soft ground — the land here has a way of quieting the noise that follows us into our daily lives.

This is not a clinical environment. It is a living one. The horses move freely. The seasons shift. The space is designed to feel welcoming, unhurried, and real. Many clients tell us that simply arriving here helps them exhale in a way they haven't in a long time.

Whether you're stepping into the arena for the first time or settling into a regular rhythm of sessions, Mustang Magic is a place where you are welcome to show up as you are.
Our Mission
Honoring the Courage It Takes to Heal
The mission of Mustang Magic is to create a space where healing is possible for anyone willing to show up — not perfectly, but honestly. We believe that the most profound growth often happens not in the telling of a story, but in the noticing of it. In the quiet moment when something shifts. In the breath that comes just a little easier. In the choice to try again. We are here to walk alongside you in that process — with the horses, with intention, and with deep respect for wherever you are on your path.
